The imperative (l'imperatif) is the command form of the verb.  It is used when you want to tell someone to do something, give a command, or offer a suggestion.

The imperative is formed by using the present tense TU, NOUS, or VOUS form of the verb.

* When using the singular form of the imperative (TU form) of -er verbs, drop the "s"

 Parle!

 Choisis!

 Parlez!

You can also use the imperative in the negative to say "Don't do

whatever!"  Just put ne...pas around the verb.

 

Example:  Don't talk! --> Ne parle pas!

Don't eat the fish! --> Ne mangez pas le poisson!

Let's not go to the park! --> N'allons pas au parc!
